How to manually install the Virtual COM Port driver version 1.4.

(1) Go to http://www.pmdx.com/Downloads_Utilities/ and download two files:
VCP_V1.3.1_Setup_x64.exe (if you have a 64-bit version of Windows)
        ** OR **
VCP_V1.3.1_Setup.exe (if you have a 32-bit version of Windows)
        ** AND **
    VCP_V1.4.0_FullInstall.zip

(2) Un-plug the SmartBOB from the PC's USB port.

(3) Run the VCP_V1.3.1_Setup_x64.exe.  You *should* get a dialog asking it you want to install, repair or uninstall.  Select "uninstall" and go through the rest of the dialogs.
WARNING: If you do NOT see the choice to uninstall, cancel and exit the installer.  You do not have the version 1.3.1 driver installed.

(4) Look inside the "VCP_V1.4.0_FullInstall.zip" file or extract the contents to a directory.  Look for the "VCP_V1.4.0_Setup.exe" file and run that.

(5) After "VCP_V1.4.0_Setup.exe" finishes running, you should have this directory:
    C:\Program Files\STMicroelectronics\Software\Virtual comport driver

NOTE: There *MAY* also be a "Virtual COM Port Driver" directory (note that "COM Port" is two words here, and one word in the directory of interest above) or "Virtual COM Port Driver v1.3.1' directory.  IGNORE THOSE.

(6) If you are running Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7, look inside the "Win7" directory.  If you are running Windows 8, 8.1 or 10 then look inside the "Win8" directory.  You will see a handful of files, two of which are:
    dpinst_x86.exe        <-- This is the 32-bit installer
    dpinst_amd64.exe    <-- This is the 64-bit installer

(7) Run the installer that matches the 32/64-bit-ness of your PC.  If you are running a 32-bit version of Windows, run "dpinst_x86.exe".  If you are running a 64-bit version of Windows, run "dpinst_amd64.exe".

(8) Plug the SmartBOB back into the PC's USB port.  You should now be able to see the device in the Windows Device Manager.
